FAQ
- When powder or liquid coating should be applied?
Powder coating has a series of evident preferences when applied for most of iron parts such as:
- fire and environmental safety (absence of fire-hazardous and environmentally-unfriendly volatile solutions)
- higher output due to obtaining final coating in applying only one paint layer (without preliminary primer coat formation)
- non-waste technology (reusing of unsettled powder paint)
Powder coating has some limitations in application and therefore the liquid paint is to be used.
The main cases of using liquid paints:
- large size, steel intense parts which require much power to be pre-heated to the polymerization temperature
- coating quality conforming standard field requirements such as vehicle production, railroad transport, aviation construction, military and other large size special machinery
- workpieces which can not be heat-treated at the temperatures of powder paint polymerization.
- What surface pretreatment is required before powder and liquid coating?
On the whole there is no big difference in choosing surface treatment technology before liquid or powder coating
Before application of paint mechanical cleaning is recommended first (in a shot blasting chamber) if there are a lot of dirt and corrosion on the surface, and after that – a chemical surface pretreatment by a stream washer or by immersing a workpiece into the tank with reagents.
Number of pretreatment stages depends on requirements of anti corrosion metal protection.
We apply processes with only degreasing components which clean surface for the following paint application as well as more complicated processes when special conversion coatings are obtained (amorphous phosphatizing, crystalline phosphatizing, passivation, chromatazation) which provide an additional anti corrosion protection.
We offer full range of equipment for surface pretreatment. Our specialists will select an optimum process of surface pretreatment taking into account your production peculiarities.
- What paints can be used in powder coating equipment supplied by your company
Powder paints have some physical and chemical features which influence quality of finishing coating.
These physical and chemical features depend on raw materials applied, receipt of preparation used for equipment of paint production including automation and control level of process technological parameters
Furthermore, level of laboratory devices to control product quality is important.
As a result the customer purchases a powder paint with certain characteristics such as dispersability, temperature and time of polymerization as well as features of coating – adhesion, bend testing, impact testing, galling etc.
These powder products have excellent physical and chemical features and compatible with almost all brands of processing equipment.
There are a lot of companies producing qualitative paints at powder paints market, together with modern processing equipment it allows to achieve necessary coating quality. Among them are Protech – Oxyplast – EkoPowder powder paints.
- Is it possible to coat a workpiece coated by powder paint before?
Yes, it is possible if the first layer has good adhesion, surface is thoroughly treated and high-quality equipment for powder coating is used
- Is it possible to coat workpiece partly
Yes, it is possible. In order to protect elements of workpiece from coating heat-proof masking tapes, disks, caps, plugs are used. We offer wide choice of masking products for application with powder and liquid painting equipment.
- Do you provide maintenance service of liquid or powder coating equipment ?
NPK PK provides warranty and post warranty service. In case the customer has equipment with defects our specialists can evaluate its condition and, if possible, suggest options fro upgrading or replacing.
